1. Daily Cleaning:

  • After each use, clean the cutting board with mild soap and warm water. Use a soft sponge or cloth to avoid scratching the surface.

  • Avoid soaking the cutting board or submerging it in water. Prolonged exposure to water can cause warping and cracking.

  • For cleaning after cutting meat it’s recommended to clean with water and vinegar.

2. Regular Oil Maintenance:

  • Periodically (every 1-2 weeks, or as needed), reapply a thin layer of food-grade mineral oil or beeswax to the board to prevent it from drying out and to maintain its luster.

  • Apply the oil or wax in the direction of the wood grain using a clean, soft cloth.

3. Stain and Odor Removal:

  • For stubborn stains or lingering odors, sprinkle coarse salt on the board and rub with half a lemon. Rinse with water and dry thoroughly.

  • Baking soda paste can also be used for stain removal. Apply the paste, let it sit for a few minutes, then scrub and rinse.

4. Avoid Extreme Temperatures:

  • Do not expose the cutting board to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight. Prolonged exposure to heat can cause the wood to crack, and excessive sunlight may fade the color.

  • Avoid placing hot pots or pans directly on the cutting board.

5. Knife Care:

  • Use sharp knives on the cutting board to prevent excessive force and minimize the risk of cutting into the wood.

  • Avoid using serrated knives or cleavers that can cause unnecessary wear.

6. Resurface if Needed:

  • Over time, the cutting board may develop small scratches. To refresh the surface, lightly sand the board with fine-grit sandpaper, and then reapply a coat of mineral oil or beeswax.

By following these care instructions, you'll ensure that your betterboard maintains its beauty and durability, becoming a cherished part of your kitchen for years to come.
